Engineering consultancy: modeling the total cost of ownership of a 100 MW power plant
Total Cost Analysis for a 100 MW power plant - Gas turbine
Scenario analysis for power plant construction and selection of best technologies
The project
This project aims to evaluate different options for the construction of a 100 MW power plant in East Africa, and provide key information to make an informed decision on the best option for this infrastructure. Cayambe was commissioned to carry out a lifecycle financial analysis of these options provided by three different EPC contractors as part of a competitive bidding process. The analysis includes modeling the total cost of ownership over the plant’s lifecycle, taking into account investment, operating and maintenance costs, as well as maintenance and revenue loss scenarios. A comparative study of the three models was carried out using a total cost approach.
Our experts
3 international experts were mobilized
- A financial engineer
- A modeling expert
- A rotating machinery engineer
The project was carried out over a one-month period by a project manager and the Cayambe Energy Manager.
The actions
The following actions were carried out by the Cayambe team of experts:
- Detailed examination of the various options on offer
- Development of a comprehensive model to assess the total costs of options, taking into account investment, operating and maintenance costs over the life cycle of the power plant
- Gathering relevant data on each option
- Detailed comparative study of the three models
- Identification and assessment of the technical, financial, environmental and operational risks associated with each option
- Formulation of a clear, substantiated recommendation on the most favorable option for the construction of the 100 MW power plant, based on the analyses and assessments carried out
- A detailed report to stakeholders to help them make an informed decision on which option to choose for the project
